JW Marriott Phu Quoc
Emerald Bay
The Shell-Shaped Pool Caught My Eye—
But the Beach Stayed with Me
Hi, I’m Vetravel.
Beyond the white sand, the sea stretched out in shades of turquoise.
When I turned around, colorful buildings filled the view.
That combination of beach scenery and architectureis what I remember most about this hotel.
I chose it because I wanted somewhere I could really unwind without leaving the resort.
Even a simple walk around the grounds turned out to be a pleasure.
My take? If you’d rather spend your vacation relaxing than sightseeing, this is a hotel I’d happily return to.

1. Emerald Bay Review: Checking In to a “Seaside University”

The colorful buildings were the first thing I noticed as we entered the resort.
Instead of sleek glass facades, there were columns, arches, and patterned tiles.
This was a hotel with things to explore from the moment I arrived, and I couldn’t wait to look around.
Designed by Bill Bensley, the resort takes its inspiration from a fictional university. That imaginative concept runs throughout the property.
My eyes kept drifting up toward the high ceilings,
while the different decorative details on each building kept stopping me in my tracks.
Even the walk from the lobby to our room felt like part of the experience, not just a way to get there.

Essential Information: Five-star resort · Khem Beach, southern Phu Quoc, Vietnam · Check-in from 3 p.m. · Check-out by noon · Trip.com lists the airport drive as approximately 18.3 km and 26 minutes
Once I’d unpacked, it was easy to settle into a routine between the room, beach, and restaurants.
I loved not having to keep heading out.
For me, having everything close enough to spend a full day at the resortmade it much easier to relax.

The location may be less convenient if you plan to go sightseeing in northern Phu Quoc every day.
It’s better suited to a beach-focused stay in the south.
Splitting your trip into sightseeing days and resort days can help cut down on travel time.
Vetravel’s Tip:
Before booking, check whether airport pickup is included and how much a transfer costs.
I’d leave at least one outside activity off your arrival-day itinerary.
2. Inside the Room: Relaxation That Extends onto the Balcony

The university theme continued inside the room.
Distinctive colors and decorative details
gave it much more personality than a standard room with a bed.
I also loved having a balcony. It made the room feel like somewhere to linger.
As soon as I sank into the plush bedding, my pace slowed right down.
The cool interior contrasted beautifully with the open view beyond the balcony.
Even when I’m only taking a short break, I love a room with somewhere to sit and look outside. That little detail makes a difference to me.

In the bathroom, the bathtub and shower were separate.Having both was a welcome touch.
With a deep soaking tub and a rain shower,
it was an easy place to rinse off and unwind after swimming.
Hearing the water in that quiet bathroom made it finally sink in: I was on vacation.
When choosing a room, check the stated view before getting caught up in the room name.
The Emerald Bay Ocean View room listed on Agoda measures 53 square meters,or about 570 square feet.
Be sure to distinguish between garden and ocean views, as well as king-bed and double-bed configurations.

Alongside reviews praising the spacious rooms, I also found comments about cleanliness and odors.
That doesn’t mean every room has the same issues, but those reviews are worth reading before booking.
I’d check the bedding and bathroom as soon as I arrived.
Vetravel’s Tip:
If you want to see the sea from your room, choose a rate that explicitly includes an ocean view.
Requesting a high floor alone doesn’t guarantee one.
3. Emerald Bay Review: The Pools—and the Beach Beyond Them

I’d already seen photos of the shell-shaped Shell Pool, but it was just as eye-catching in person.
Its sweeping curves looked beautiful against the blue water.
Taking in the pool and beach together gave me that wonderful wide-open feeling.
Alongside the Shell Pool, there’s a Sand Pool and an adults-only Sun Pool. Each gives you another place to unwind.
I liked not having to stay in the same spot all day.
If you’re traveling with children, check which pools they can use.
If you’re after a quieter escape, take a look at the adults-only area.

I loved the pools, but Khem Beachwas just as much of a highlight.
I still remember the fine sand under my feet, the shallow shoreline,
and the waves gently rolling in.
Walking to the sound of the water, I found myself checking my phone less and less.
Judging by the reviews, plenty of other guests loved the beach, too.
Trip.com’s “Loved the beach” category showed 197 mentionswhen I checked.
The fine sand, sea, pools, and architectural design came up repeatedly in positive reviews.

The chemistry-lab-themed bar was another fun space to explore.
Glass apparatus and a periodic table on the ceiling brought an unexpected twist to a beach resort.
The officially listed opening hours are 4 p.m. to midnight. There’s more to explore beyond the bar, too:
the resort is also home to Chanterelle – Spa by JW.
Vetravel’s Tip:
Some reviews mention early closing times for the pools and beach facilities, so plan your swimming for the daytime.
Confirm the exact hours and spa appointment availability after you arrive.

4. Breakfast and Booking Tips: A Morning Worth Taking Slowly

In the morning, I headed to the beachfront restaurant, Tempus Fugit. With the sea still in view while I ate,
I felt no urge to rush through breakfast and head out.
Breakfast is served from 6:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.That leaves plenty of time for a leisurely start.
The spread included Vietnamese, Western, and other Asian dishes.
There were plenty of choices, including noodle soup, made-to-order stations, and tropical fruit.
Warm food and the aroma of coffee made the morning feel even more relaxed.

When booking, compare the final price with breakfast included. That’s the number that really matters.
Trip.com lists a separate adult breakfast charge of VND 900,900 per person.
A cheaper room-only rate doesn’t necessarily mean a cheaper trip overall.
Nightly rates vary by date and room conditions.
When I checked on October 8, 2026, I couldn’t verify a live rate in Korean won.
Compare both platforms using the same dates and number of guests,
with matching views and cancellation policies.
Vetravel’s Tip:
Check how many guests breakfast covers, along with any taxes and fees.
Bar and café hours differ between booking platforms and the official information,
so double-check before you go.
5. Emerald Bay Review: My Final Take

When I think of this hotel, white sand, turquoise water, and colorful buildingscome together in one vivid scene.
The pool photos first caught my attention,
but during my stay, I fell for the beach and walking paths, too.
1. The Beach: I loved slowing down beside the sea and its fine white sand.
2. The Setting: The university-inspired architecture and variety of pools made exploring the grounds a pleasure.
3. Booking: Compare final prices with matching views and breakfast inclusions.
I’d recommend it to anyone who enjoys a vacation spent relaxing, walking, and taking photos at the hotel. It’s a lovely fit for that kind of trip.
If you plan to tour northern Phu Quoc every day, or just need somewhere to sleep, I’d reconsider the location and budget.
Read the reviews about inconsistent cleanliness and service before booking.
Even so, the reason I’d return is simple:
spending time within the resort was enjoyable enough on its own.
I hope you get to enjoy a few unhurried days beside the sea, too.
Until next time, Vetravel.
Vetravel’s Tip:
Leave a little breathing room in your itinerary on the days you stay here.
A walk along the beach and an afternoon beside the pool might turn out to be exactly why you chose this hotel.
